Teachers of music in five of ten regions in Ghana were asked to report their teaching strategies in a 34-item questionnaire. Fifty-six responses were collected and analyzed. | | Results/Conclusions: | Results indicate that existing strategies used include singing games, vocables, solfege, speech, poetry, movement and dance. Strategies and teacher background differed among regions. It would be feasible to incorporate contemporary approaches of Orff and Kodaly and Ghanaian indigenous music in developing a curriculum for formal music education. | | Keywords: | Cultural suitability, Elementary Methods Curriculum, Indigenous tradition, Survey | |
